Announcing lfpress.com Labs August 18, 2008

Hello world!

With that single phrase millions of software projects have been launched.  I’m not sure of the origin of that phrase or what programmer first announced their presence with it, but it does feel strangely appropriate for the launch of our own lfpress.com Labs blog.

The concept of a ‘lab’ is a borrowed one, as 99% of the people reading this blog will realize.  Google is perhaps the company that has had the best success with the concept.  We are borrowing that moniker for this site as it adequately captures the spirit of what we’re doing here.

lfpress.com Labs will be the launch platform for many of the tools we are planning to bring to the main www.lfpress.com web site.  These will be the “not quite ready for prime time” tools that are in late development or in some form of beta testing.

My goal for the site will be to:

  1. Announce new services as we prepare to roll them out,
  2. Engage in dialogue with beta testers and early adopters to make sure that the solutions meet the needs of the London community, and
  3. Aggregate all of the in development projects in one place for easy reference by internal staff

At this early stage the audience is not entirely clear to me.  I suspect that it will be a healthy mix of both technically adept and ’social media’ savvy readers, along with many Sun Media and LFP staff members.

Here we go. Wish us luck!

Director of Internet Media, lfpress.com

August 18 and I’m only discovering this now? Something definitely wrong there. I mean, all it took was a single tweet. Enough said. What I’m dying to know is… how long have you been the LFP’s “resident web strategistresident web strategist”?

Well, I had the blog ready and some entries in here last month but I wanted to get a few of the more senior people in Sun Media to take a quick look and give me the green light. We’re treading into new territory here in terms of presenting a behind the scenes view of the company. After a few messages, I was told to get started. In my mind it seemed manipulative to go back and adjust the dates of those initial posts. They are what they are.

I’ve been on the scene here at lfpress for 3 months. I’ve been in the web space since back in the days of my first Mosaic browser at UWO.
